This is the personal site of Colin McKinney, a Scottish Web Designer and Illustrator.
I’m originally from Balloch, next to Loch Lomond. I’ve been interested in illustration and computers since I was a kid (starting off with Deluxe Paint on the trusty old Commodore Amiga), so I thought I’d better find a career that combined the two.
After school (at the Vale of Leven Academy) I went on to study Product Design at University, but left after a year due to a general lack of interest (never listen to your careers advisor at school folks!). Starting from scratch, I decided to do what I originally wanted and enrolled in a College Graphic Design course to learn about design for print. I then went on to University to study Applied Graphics Technology with Multimedia, paying my way with freelance design and illustration work. The web part of my course was very basic and only scratched the surface, but it was enough to show me that I wanted to be involved with the internet. After gaining my degree I bought myself a stack of books and locked myself away for a few months to teach myself all about XHTML, CSS and some basic scripting.
Shortly afterwards I joined teleIT (an internet products and services company) as a full-time designer. Working with such a great team of designers and developers brought my work up to a whole new standard and gave me the opportunity to work on a number of high-profile projects. After ditching my old Flash site and relaunching the fully CSS version I was contacted by a number of other companies; one of which was WeeWorld Ltd. I’m now a full-time designer for WeeWorld Ltd, having a great time working on projects such as WeeWorld.com and all the other exciting products they currently have in development.
In July 2005, tired of making long train journeys from Balloch and Dumbarton every day, I bought my own place in Glasgow.
